Worming Your Horse
The five most common dewormer ingredients found in horse wormers are: Febendazole, Ivermectin, Moxidectin, Praziquantel, and Pyrantel.

Febendazole
controls large strongyles, encysted early- and late-third-stage and fourth-stage cyathostome larvae, small strongyles, pinworms, and ascarids.

Ivermectin
controls large strongyles, small strongyles, pinworms, ascarids, hairworms, large-mouth stomach worms, bots, lungworms, and intestinal threadworms.

Praziquantel
controls tapeworms.

Pyrantel Pamoate and Tartrate
control large strongyles, small strongyles, pinworms, ascarids, and tapeworms when double-dosed.

You will need to establish a regular worming schedule to keep your horse healthy.  Worms can cause malnutrition that can lead to weight loss.  Worm your horse with an over the counter dewormer at least every 2 months.  Rotate brands every other worming due to the fact that each brand of dewormer kills a variety of different kinds of worms.
